London's Best Beaches

Jul 21st 2015 | lifestyle | london

London’s best beaches? Yes, you read that right. The Big Smoke is finally catching up with the likes of Barcelona, Miami and Rio de Janeiro and there are plenty of choices in London where you can soak up some ‘seaside’ sun this summer. Here's our favourites for Summer 2015.

BeachEast at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park boasts one thousand tons of sand spread over 2200 sq metres of Stratford Waterfront beside the Former Olympic Stadium. A gigantic paddling pool and funfair rides will entertain the kids, and Pub Tropicana and Coconut Joe's bar will keep the adults suitably refreshed.

Camden Roundhouse Beach features 150 tonnes of the finest sand, a pier with arcade games, fish and chips, a swimming pool and the obligatory ping pong. Monday visitors can enjoy two-for-one cocktails.

Royal Victoria Dock is definitely one for the more active beachgoer. Beneath the Emirates cable car there is a watersports centre which offers wakeboarding on the river. For the arty amongst us there's an impressive line up of live music, theatrical performances and even puppet shows.

The Beach at JW3 offers entertainment for the whole family. The area will become a hotspot for all the best bits of summer – deckchairs, paddling pools, mojitos, BBQs and plenty of sand to play in.

The Beach at Brent Cross claims to be London's biggest ever urban beach, and boasts over 250,000 tonnes of sand and 100 palm trees, plus a paddling area. Traditional seaside entertainment, Punch and Judy, carousels and teacup rides sit alongside a 60ft roller coaster and fairground games. Refreshments come in the form of fish and chips and statutory Pimms.
