Mark Zuckerberg just blew your New Year's resolution out of the water with his Iron Man inspired challenge

No one does a New Year's resolution quite like Mark Zuckerberg! But even as his New Year's resolutions go, this one is certainly ambitious! While many of us have probably set resolutions to be healthier, fitter and kinder people in 2016, the Facebook founder blows us all out of the water with his announcement of his personal challenge to build an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system.

This puts all our New Year resolutions to shame, yes, and you may say that Zuckerberg has been watching too much Iron Man over the Christmas period, but that is precisely where he claims the inspiration came from, saying that he wants to build an AI assistant like "Jarvis in Iron Man."

Writing on his Facebook page, he says he wants the assistant is to help run his home and help him with his work.

"I'm going to start by exploring what technology is already out there," he writes.

"Then I'll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home -- music, lights, temperature and so on."

"I'll teach it to let friends in by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell," he said.

" I'll teach it to let me know if anything is going on in Max's room that I need to check on when I'm not with her.

"On the work side, it'll help me visualize data in VR to help me build better services and lead my organisations more effectively."

"This should be a fun intellectual challenge to code this for myself," he said.

"I'm looking forward to sharing what I learn over the course of the year."

His previous personal challenges have included learning Mandarin, reading two books a month and meeting a new person every day, he said.

And seeing as Zuckerberg is all about "sharing," hopefully he will share his invention, if successful, with the rest of us!

Once again I really want to thank you for how helpful you have been and how quick you have been in getting back to me - Charlotte
