‘Tis the season of peace and goodwill but don’t be fooled; the battle of the Christmas cups has begun. Over the last week, the country’s biggest coffee shop chains have rolled out their festive range, and everyone is a little too excited by it all. And they have reason to be. Just like seeing the John Lewis or Coca Cola advert, this means its officially Christmas!

While Starbucks went for the minimal, classy red cup design, the Costa Christmas cups have all the bells and whistles, with fabulous prints of Santa, Elves, robins, penguins and snowmen on them. Because nothing says Christmas like having your gingerbread latte served in a cup with Santa’s face on it.

The Christmas coffee war does not end there. The old Costa favourites are back such as the Gingerbread and Cream Latte, the White Hot Chocolate and the Black Forest Hot Chocolate, and fresh on the scene are the sexy sounding Salted Caramel Cappuccino, Tiramisu Latte and Caramel Fudge Hot Chocolate.

Starbucks to have unleashed a new range, including the Honey and Almond Hot Chocolate, as well as bringing back some Christmas classics including Gingerbread Latte, Toffee Nut Latte and Eggnog Latte.

Not to forget the best of the rest, Caffe Nero have come up with the Spiced Orange Latte and the Winter Berry Latte, while Pret have similarly gone for the Orange Spiced Hot Chocolate, and EAT, the Chocolate Brownie Hot Chocolate.

No matter how they taste we are all sure to go wild for them. Why? Because it’s Christmas in a cup and we are a nation of coffee lovers that obsessed with the stuff.
